How to Know What Hair Length Suits Your Face Shape

November 12, 2022 by admin

Believe it or not, the shape of your face impacts what length of hair will suit your face. Keep reading to find out which hair length best suits your face shape and accentuates your features.

Heart Shape

People with heart shaped faces are slightly wider around the forehead and narrower on the chin. Long soft layers such as bobs and lobs for this face shape elongate the chin. Another way to complement the heart face is by implementing bangs. Long choppy bangs coincide nicely with heart a shaped face. To achieve these bangs, ask your hairstylist to cut bangs vertically rather than straight across.

Oval Shape

Oval shaped faces are longer than they are wide and taper gradually toward the chin. This shape is universal and will suit any length. If you have an oval face shape, try mixing and playing with different lengths and styles. A way that this can be done is by changing up your part. Try opting for a deep side part or even a middle part.

Square Face

Square face shapes have a more angular jawline and a straighter chin. The best haircuts for square faces have layering around the face. This softens the sharp appearance of your jawline to give more of a softer look. A side part is extremely flattering with a square face. Give yourself an off-centered part.

Knowing your face shape will help you not only get the best haircut possible but will also help you look and feel your best! Contact us today at Beauty Lounge to take advantage of all the services that we offer!

Brazilian Blowout Vs. Keratin Treatment

June 17, 2022 by admin

Summer right around the corner means warm weather and higher levels of humidity, which can lead to frizzy hair. During this season some popular treatments can be done to help eliminate frizz. Treatments such as Brazilian blowout and keratin treatments both have benefits depending on which treatment is most suitable for your hair.

The Difference Between Brazilian Blowout and Keratin Treatment

Brazilian blowouts and keratin treatments have the same effect on hair. Both eliminate frizz and smooth the hair. They are safe for all hair types including color-treated hair. The main difference between the Brazilian blowout and keratin treatment is that the Brazilian blowout is more customizable. With a Brazilian blowout, the hair stylist can tailor it to your natural hair texture meaning you don’t have to sacrifice your volume or waves.

Another way in which the Brazilian blowout and keratin treatment differ is the downtime. After a keratin treatment, you can’t get your hair wet for 72 hours. The Brazilian blowout does not require any downtime, you can go about your regular styling routine. Another difference to note is the intensity of both treatments. The Brazilian blowout is lighter and will leave hair with more of your natural texture. Keratin tends to be heavier which helps better tame fizz and takes away the additional volume of your hair.

Procedure

The method of application for these treatments does vary. For the Brazilian blowout, the process usually takes two hours, and the results are instant. As opposed to the keratin treatment which will take approximately 3 hours and you will leave the salon with your hair partially done. After the keratin treatment is done you have to wait 72 hours to allow for the keratin to crystalize.

Now that we’ve given you a rundown of both the Brazilian Blowout and keratin treatment and the process of each, now is your turn to determine which one is right for you! Beauty Lounge RI offers these services and more. Interested in booking? Contact us today to book an appointment!

Eyelash Extension Aftercare

May 16, 2022 by admin

Eyelash extensions make a great addition for those wanting to accentuate an eye look. Here at Beauty Lounge RI, we value the importance of eyelash extension care. While eyelash extensions are a simple way to amplify your look, they do require care and maintenance to ensure that they last between fillings.

Classic Lash

Why is Eyelash Extension Care Important?

  • To prevent possible eye irritation or infections – if you do not take care of your eyelash extensions properly it can lead to possible irritation and eye infections.
  • Lash health – If you do not take care of your eyelash extensions properly this can hinder the growth of new eyelashes.
  • They will look better longer – taking care of your eyelash extensions will increase their overall longevity.

Steps and Tips for Eyelash Extension Care

It’s crucial to keep your set dry for the first 48 hours. After the 48-hour mark, wash your eyelash extensions. If you don’t wash your eyelash extensions after 48 hours residue will build upon your lash line potentially leading to an eye infection.

When washing your eyelash extensions make sure to use a special eyelash extension solution or distilled water. Wash them with a soft bristle brush. Let the water from your shower run down over your face and eyes.

Eyelash Extension Fills

When should you get your eyelash extensions filled? We recommend that you get your lashes filled every 2-4 weeks. The timing may be different depending on factors such as:

  • The amount of lashes applied
  • The maintenance of your lashes
  • Your lash cycle and how fast your eyelashes grow
  • Inform us if anything has changed for example, if you’d like to upgrade to a thicker set etc.
  • Avoid coming in with heavy makeup so we can apply extensions to a clean face

Lash Extensions

April 15, 2022 by admin

Looking for a fresh set of Lashes this Spring? Beauty Lounge RI has the service for you! Come into the salon for a consultation with a Lash Technician, where they’ll walk you through this simple 5-step process to give you a set to remember.

1. Determine Your Desired Look

Eyelash extensions come in many styles and sizes. They range from natural to mega volume and offer lengths between 5 mm to 18 mm. This very customizable beauty accessory is unique to every client and every eye shape. No one set is identical to the next making every eyelash extension one of a kind.

The lash extension volume and length depend on the client’s desired lash style. If you are looking to give your natural lashes a little push, a classic set with lengths between 7mm and 9mm will do the trick. If you want a look that gives you everyday glamour, go for a bold volume set with lengths between 12mm and 16mm.

If you’re not sure what style and size fit the best for your eye shape, professionals at Beauty Lounge RI will help guide you through the selection process to ensure you have the perfect set for you.

2. Cleanse Lash Line

Using a small soft-bristled makeup brush the technician will dip the brush in a lightweight cleanser and some water, then, carefully start massaging the brush on the client’s lashes and lash line. Cleaning your lashes is crucial in maintaining long-lasting lash extensions. This breaks down any excess oil and dirt so the glue can hold a stronger bond to the natural lash.

3. Preparation

To ensure a clean safe working space a lash tech will prep the eye area before the application with sanitized hands. The first step is to adhere an under-eye pad that hugs the lower lash line covering the under-eye area. This is to protect the skin from fall out while applying the lashes. In addition, micropore tape is used to secure the eyelid and eye pad in place. At this point, primer is added to the lashes to prep for application.

With size and style selected, a professional lash tech will set out the individual lashes and any tools they may need for easy access throughout the process. High-quality bonding glue is used to keep lashes looking great for up to 2 weeks. After shaking the glue bottle well, only a drop-sized amount of glue is needed for the application.

4. Application

Using clean tweezers, a professional lash tech will carefully separate one lash at a time to create space to glue in the individual lash. Once the space is visible, the lash tech will pick up an induvial lash, dip it in a very small amount of glue, and gently fill in the space on the lash line. With this repeated step across the lash line, the volume will build creating a full lash.

Beauty Lounge Mink Lashes

Lash extensions are perfect for any time of year but especially in Spring and Summer. They are waterproof for the first 24 hours after the initial application. Healthy Hair Habits

March 11, 2022 by admin

As professional stylists, we love to see clients experiment with their looks. Although we strive to accommodate our client’s hair goals, it’s our responsibility to prioritize the health of their hair. To get the most out of your hair-styling journey, your hair must begin with a strong foundation that can handle coloring, cuts, and styling!

A healthy hair regimen is essential to maintain the integrity of your strands and open options for any styling goals. No two heads are alike, and each comes with a genetic predisposition that can affect the behavior of the hair follicles. As you pick up on healthy hair habits, find ways to make these hair care tips your own!

Cleansing

Our scalp is one of the most important systems in the life cycle of a hair follicle. This is where the roots sit and what continues to feed brand new hair out of the head. Healthy hair comes from a healthy scalp and cleansing the scalp is important to promote strong hair growth.

When washing your hair concentrate your suds on the scalp where most of the buildup of dirt, oil, and dead skin is sitting. Due to shampoos’ strong stripping power, it’s important to refrain from over washing. Washing more than needed strips the hair of its natural oils that the roots need to thrive. When it comes to washing, go for a shampoo that is free from harmful chemicals like sulfates, parabens, or the many other chemicals commonly found in popular shampoo brands.

Moisturizing

Like a growing plant, hair needs moisture to thrive. Conditioner can not only be used moisturize but it also doubles as a gentle cleanser. If you need a refresh but recently washed, you can use conditioner on the scalp to break down dirt and oil.

When using conditioner to moisturize, focus the product at the end of the hair. The ends of the hair are the most fragile as they are the oldest. This hair is the driest and needs the most attention when it comes to moisture. Use a quality conditioner with ingredients that support your hair type and let it sit for 2-3 minutes to ensure the product penetrates the hair shaft. Beauty Lounge RI offers various hair treatments to deep condition the hair leaving your hair feeling brand new.

Diet

You are what you eat, and this is true for hair health. Diet is a crucial part of maintaining strong, healthy hair. Fueling your body with the nutrients it needs will help retain and continue to produce healthy, shiny hair. Vitamins like iron, B6, Folic Acid, B12, and more help support hair growth and health.

Heat

Like skin, the hair also needs to be protected by heat damage and harmful UV rays. If you use heat tools to style your hair daily and wonder why your natural hair is not satisfying you, it is most likely because your strands are fried from the constant heat damage. This damage is often irreversible and will need to be cut off.  Using less heat on your hair will yield stronger smoother strands. If you do put heat on your hair, use a quality heat protectant to shield your hair.

Indirect heat can also be damaging to your hair. Harsh UV rays from the sun can cause heat damage to your hair and scalp. Getting a sunburn on your scalp affects the layer of skin that houses the roots of the hair follicles, which can cause damage to growing roots. To protect your hair and scalp, apply sunscreen to both areas or wear a hat to protect against the intense UV rays.

Preventing Breakage

If you are having trouble growing hair, it’s most likely not an issue of producing hair, but the issue of retaining it. Hair follicles come from the roots of the scalp, and with proper hair care and diet, hair grows about a ½ an inch on average each month. If your hair is always growing, then why don’t you see growth? This is because as your hair grows, it can be simultaneously breaking off at the ends. Being that our ends are the most fragile, they are prone to breakage from everyday styling tools.

Your brush can be breaking your hair if it’s not designed for your hair type. Most brushes are made from plastic, wood, or rubber, and all these mediums can be rough on the hair shaft. Getting a brush that goes with the grain of your hair is the best for preventing breakage. For a gentle detangling tool, use a wide took comb or finger detangling to support hair retention.

Other tools like elastic bands and towels for drying should be replaced with more gentle options. Invest in plastic and metal-free hair ties when styling your hair to ensure there is no excessive pulling or ripping of the hair. Instead of drying your hair with a towel, which is made with fibers that are rough on the hair, use a cotton tee shirt that does not pull on the hair and leaves your hair frizz-free.

Have you ever effortlessly combed through your hair and as you approach the ends it turns rough and tough to comb through? You need a trim! Trims are essential for all hair types. As your hair grows, it’s important to regularly trim your damaged ends. The ends of the hair are usually festered with dry and brittle split ends. Split ends can lead to huge amounts of breakage that travel up to the root. Trims are essential in getting rid of dead, damaged, and split ends to make room for new growth.

At Beauty Lounge RI we want to see you in the style of your dreams… but only under the circumstances that your hair is strong enough to uphold the change. A few simple changes in your hair care habits can yield hair that will make it through anything. Avoid DIY styling and chemical processing as that can be contributing to unhealthy hair. Find inspiration and let a professional execute the service and they will ensure your hair’s health is the top priority.

If you are at the beginning of your hair care journey, that’s okay too. Contact us for a consultation, where a hair care professional will discuss the needs of your hair and give you the tools you need to manage it. Visit our website for hours and contact information today!

Bangs are Back and Bolder Than Ever

February 15, 2022 by admin

When you’re looking for style change bangs can be the perfect remedy. There are countless ways to cut and style bangs to fit everyone’s style needs. Midlife crisis or not, cutting bangs can feel like taking pounds off your look, resulting in a fresh style change. With the many bangs styles available, find out what bang fits you before visiting a professional.

History of Bangs

Although some claim Cleopatra was the first to rock bangs, this look has traceable roots to regions worldwide. Interestingly in the past, bangs were not always considered fun flirty fringe we see today. Bangs were a very controversial style choice to have as a woman in ancient times. The style went from being condemned by the religious leaders, as vanity is one of the “seven deadly sins”, to being a form of identification for political power. Every day women would look up to powerful elites and try to emulate their style. Bangs fell out of political control and were taken over by celebrities. Since then, we have seen “It Girls” in the public eye create a space for this trending hairstyle.

Bettie Page

Pin-up girls in the ’20s beautified their style to support troops at war. This iconic look is carried by the very versatile, deep curled bang. This style evolved into the next decades with support from pin-up models like Bettie Page, who coined the “Bettie Bang”. The Bettie Bang was a cross between a micro bang and a blunt bang with a volumizing twist.

  • Audrey Hepburn
  • Bridgette Bardot

The ’60s and ’70s are when the bang took an even more trendy approach. Some of the most notable bang styles that have been recycled to today’s trends come from this era. Foreign “It’s Girls”, like Audrey Hepburn, with her micro bang and pixie cut, and Brigitte Bardot, with her free-flowing bottleneck bang. These two women are just a few that went on to captivate TV screens and influence the styles we see today.

Bottle Neck vs Curtain

These bang styles are in the same family because of the similarity in shape and hang. There is a subtle difference in the cuts that make up the distinction between the two.

Curtain bangs are exactly what they sound like. Think of being in a theater with red velvet curtains that open and close. This is the inspiration behind this face-framing cut. Curtain bangs are cut in long layers that cascade down both sides of the face and are perfectly symmetrical down each die. The part is generally straight down the middle of the forehead with the draping hair off to each side. There is no fringe that hangs in the middle of the curtain’s bangs.

Curtain Bangs

Bottleneck bangs are a fusion between the curtain bang and the short, feathered bang. We see this bang pair nicely with long layers or even a mullet.

Bottleneck Bangs

This style focuses on most of the hair cascading down each side to frame the face. While the outermost part of the bangs is long symmetrical layers there is a shorter fringe that meets together in the middle of the bang. This creates a fuller illusion versus the curtain bang that created space between the sides of the bangs.

Blunt vs Feathered

These two styles embody the difference between letting loose and staying sleek.

  • Blunt Bangs
  • Feathered Bangs

Blunt bang is your original, straight cut across the forehead style, that sits on top of your brow bone. We have all had a blunt bang moment at some point in our lives, that would become something we regret or secretly yearn to do again. The blunt bang is a strong cut that is not as versatile when it comes to styling. Once you have it, you get to rock it all day every day. The blunt bang is not for the weak, we see that in all the bold and beautiful women who took the plunge and never looked back since.

Blunt Bangs

Feathered bangs can come in all shapes and sizes. The shape and size aren’t what defines a feathered bang, but the more jagged edges made on the cut of the bang. Unlike the blunt bang, the feathered bang is not straight and sleek but more naturalesque and free. Feathered bangs are a bit more versatile and blend easily into surrounding hair than a blunt bang does.

Feathered Bangs

Layered vs Micro

If you’re looking for a cut that is sure to turn heads, layered bangs and micro bangs are trending bold looks.

  • Micro Bangs
  • Layered Bangs

Layered bangs are commonly cut in long layers, but they can also be styled into short layers. These bangs are often swept to one side or the other. The side of the layered bang will be heavier while the other side less full. This look has been coined as a punk rock style in its most extreme form but can be diluted to a more subtle fringe side bang.

Layered Bangs

Micro bangs are coming back in style, and we can thank trendy hipsters for this one. These bangs are like the blunt bang style, but they are very short in comparison. Micro bangs are cut close to the roots of the bang.

Micro Bangs

This style of blunt bang normally doesn’t reach the center of the forehead in terms of length. With this style, you have the fashion statement of the straight cut bang but with an extreme aspect of short length. Leaving space for your whole face to shine.

Micro Bangs

The mentioned styles are just a few of the various cuts you can achieve when adopting bangs to your look. There is a bang style for all hair lengths and textures! Consult with a professional hairstylist at Beauty Lounge RI for all your hair styling needs. Contact Beauty Lounge today to begin your hair transformation today!

Hair Contouring

January 18, 2022 by admin

Hairstylists around the world are using the hair contouring method to transform their customers’ look. This low maintenance color will leave your hair looking expensive without the high maintenance upkeep. With the use of highlights and shadows, you can achieve an upscale dimensional hairstyle that shapes your look.

Origin of Contouring

Contouring has been a pioneer in the makeup industry since the last decade. Using a bronzer and a highlighter, contouring is used to make subtle changes to the shape of the face. This revolutionary make-up hack has transformed faces around the world with support from celebrities like Kim Kardashian and A-list makeup artists.

This transformation has inspired a new hairstyle trend, hair contouring. This method uses dark and light shades in the hair to shape the face. This intentionally placed color works to uniquely shape the face giving an illusion of the desired face structure

Shadows and Highlights

The technical process behind this illusion is the intentional placement of shadows and highlights in the hair. This placement is reliant on the organic structure of the client’s face. Although there is no definitive number of face shapes, some facial structures we see are square, round, oval, long, diamond, heart, and rectangle. Identifying your face structure will help you decide if you want to contour to enhance your natural shape or use the shadows and light to change the structure into the shape of your liking.

Oval Face

Let’s use an oval face shape as an example. For the oval shape, the shadow, or the darkest shade in your hair, would be placed towards the roots of the hair by your stylist. The highlight would start at ear level, cascading toward the bottom where it meets at the brightest point tucked under the neck. The more prominent shade is the dark one with a blatant highlight towards the bottom of the hair. This illusion gives the impression there is a lot of blondes, but the placement and intensity of the blonde is what the captivates the human eye while most of the hair is various shades of brown.

Round Face

This method is done the opposite way for a round shape face. The stylist would process the outer layer of the hair from root to tip with the highlight shade. The shadow section would be under the highlight, placed in the inner part of the hair surrounding the neck. A small section of shadow will be placed directly under the front-most pieces of the hair which flows down into the dark hair surrounding the neck.  In this style, the most prominent shade is the highlight where the dark shade is layered under.

It’s important to note that in between the shadow shade and highlight there is a blend of shades. This blend consists of browns and blondes that create dimension through the style while the darkest shades and brightest make up the contour.

Hues and Cuts

Although traditional shades in hair contouring are browns and blonde, this technique can be achieved with many colors creating a one-of-a-kind look. Hair contouring can be used with any color if you can identify the brightest and darkest hue of that shade.  Hair contouring can be done on all hair lengths and textures. Experimenting with colors and cuts provides an array of unique possibilities.

Transform your look with this intentional hair color. Play with colors, cuts, and shapes to achieve the perfect hair contour for you. Contact a professional stylist a Beauty Lounge RI to achieve this beautiful style today!
