Hair Contouring

January 18, 2022 by admin

Hairstylists around the world are using the hair contouring method to transform their customers’ look. This low maintenance color will leave your hair looking expensive without the high maintenance upkeep. With the use of highlights and shadows, you can achieve an upscale dimensional hairstyle that shapes your look.

Origin of Contouring

Contouring has been a pioneer in the makeup industry since the last decade. Using a bronzer and a highlighter, contouring is used to make subtle changes to the shape of the face. This revolutionary make-up hack has transformed faces around the world with support from celebrities like Kim Kardashian and A-list makeup artists.

This transformation has inspired a new hairstyle trend, hair contouring. This method uses dark and light shades in the hair to shape the face. This intentionally placed color works to uniquely shape the face giving an illusion of the desired face structure

Shadows and Highlights

The technical process behind this illusion is the intentional placement of shadows and highlights in the hair. This placement is reliant on the organic structure of the client’s face. Although there is no definitive number of face shapes, some facial structures we see are square, round, oval, long, diamond, heart, and rectangle. Identifying your face structure will help you decide if you want to contour to enhance your natural shape or use the shadows and light to change the structure into the shape of your liking.

Oval Face

Let’s use an oval face shape as an example. For the oval shape, the shadow, or the darkest shade in your hair, would be placed towards the roots of the hair by your stylist. The highlight would start at ear level, cascading toward the bottom where it meets at the brightest point tucked under the neck. The more prominent shade is the dark one with a blatant highlight towards the bottom of the hair. This illusion gives the impression there is a lot of blondes, but the placement and intensity of the blonde is what the captivates the human eye while most of the hair is various shades of brown.

Round Face

This method is done the opposite way for a round shape face. The stylist would process the outer layer of the hair from root to tip with the highlight shade. The shadow section would be under the highlight, placed in the inner part of the hair surrounding the neck. A small section of shadow will be placed directly under the front-most pieces of the hair which flows down into the dark hair surrounding the neck.  In this style, the most prominent shade is the highlight where the dark shade is layered under.

It’s important to note that in between the shadow shade and highlight there is a blend of shades. This blend consists of browns and blondes that create dimension through the style while the darkest shades and brightest make up the contour.

Hues and Cuts

Although traditional shades in hair contouring are browns and blonde, this technique can be achieved with many colors creating a one-of-a-kind look. Hair contouring can be used with any color if you can identify the brightest and darkest hue of that shade.  Hair contouring can be done on all hair lengths and textures. Experimenting with colors and cuts provides an array of unique possibilities.

Transform your look with this intentional hair color. Play with colors, cuts, and shapes to achieve the perfect hair contour for you. Contact a professional stylist a Beauty Lounge RI to achieve this beautiful style today!

Winter Hair Trends

December 20, 2021 by admin

protective style

It’s winter, the snow is falling, and winter hair trends are calling! If you’re looking to change up your look and keep the season on your side, then visit Beauty Lounge and try out some of these amazing winter trends that are sure to leave you feeling like an icy queen.

Winter Colors

Silver FoxIMG_9537

An iconic winter hue that has been popular over the last few years is silver! Silver hair can come in all shades and tones of silver or grey. We sometimes even see silver purple or silver-blue shades. To achieve this look it requires a very light start. For example, if you are going from brown to a sliver, it will take a few bleaching sessions to lighten it to the point that the silver will shine through. If you are aiming to complete this process quickly, your hair already must be lightened to a white blonde. All the beautiful brunettes who aim for this there’s nothing to fear. Going to a specialist, like the hairstylists at Beauty Lounge RI, you can absolutely achieve this look in due time. Going to a professional, especially for a look like this is crucial in maintaining healthy hair. Trying this process alone can risk a lot of damage that would take time to come back from.

Icy Blonde

blondeA signature winter color is a blonde, but not any old blonde bombshell, an icy blonde. Using cool tones and bright white highlights produces the perfect icy blonde shade. This brilliant blonde can be achieved through a consistent hair lighting process. Much like the silver, your hair must be lightened in steps to achieve blonde while maintaining the health of your hair. The great thing about an icy blonde style is the vast color scheme that can come from the mix of cool and warm blondes.  Not one icy blonde is like the next and the shades are always tailored to best-fit clients.

Ash-blonde is like Icy blonde but is less vibrant and a bit duller for blondies who want the light look but don’t want it to be too bright. Using cool tones of brown, grey, and blonde, are the main contenders when trying to achieve this look. A toner is utilized to strip any warm tones from the hair leaving it to be a cute cool subtle look.

Deep Red

There is something breathtaking about red hair in the wintertime. The contrast of a bold red and the white winter is such an eye-catching moment. If there is any time to try red it’s in the winter. Red is a strong shade that requires less lighting and preparation. There are unlimited options when working with red.  If you want something richer in a color you can aim for a deep red, burgundy, or even dark auburn. You can rock a bright ruby red or incorporate red highlights and lowlights to achieve a dimensional red look. It’s important to note, like any of the other shades, red is a commitment. This shade is perfect if you plan on keeping it through the winter months and even into spring. Unlike the blonde, red doesn’t take much to achieve a beautiful shade, but it can take a longer time to completely get the warm tones out when you’re ready to go lighter. Regardless, this process is easily achievable with the right set of professionals behind you.

All these beautiful winter color trends take time to achieve and must be met with patience. With the proper maintenance at home and in the salon, these shades remain long-lasting and leave your hair healthy with a one-of-a-kind flare.

Our tried-and-true winter hairstyles are still trending this winter. When it comes to cold weather, long locks are favored over short low maintenance styles. Long layers are great for someone who wants to keep their length but wants to add volume or depth. This cut gives clients the length without the blunt, straight cut at the ends. These long layers can be paired with a curtain bang that helps shape the style around the face. Mullets are back in as well. Long mullets are trending right now and have a variety of lengths, layers, and shapes to match your style.

curtain bangs

With all of this to your strands, one of the most underrated styles for the winter is protective styles. If you are dying your hair or regularly styling it with heat tools, it’s necessary for your hair to recover from damages. Even if you rarely change your hairstyle or hair routine, protective styles are a must in the winter. Our hair is stronger when it’s together versus in a loose state. The winter months can be very hard on hair, drying it out and leading to breaking and more damage. Using styles like updos, buns, and braids, paired with a leave-in conditioner is essential in the winter months.

Pros of Eyelash Extensions

November 19, 2021 by admin

Installation

pic 2

A professional eyelash technician is certified to handle your eyelash installation within the health and safety standards in your state. The 2-hour process is painless resulting in three to four weeks of long-lasting wear. Prices vary between factors like technique, length, additions, and overall personal preference of the eyelash technician. A classic set can go for approximately 60-100 dollars. The price point is reflective of the quality of the products used and the time of service.

Pros

 heavy lash

Eyelash extensions are not only stunning but can be an efficient alternative to everyday makeup. Like Beyonce, individuals embrace the “I woke up like this” energy because their lashes stay on 24/7. Eyelash extensions ensure you always stay glamorous. Professional eyelash extensions are long-lasting and waterproof so you can wear them anytime, anywhere.

Eyelash extensions are a perfect alternative for a busy lifestyle. With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you might find yourself taking time out of self-care to pour into other responsibilities. Lash extensions are extremely low maintenance and have a dramatic impact on your everyday makeup look. With lash extensions, you can cut your makeup routine in half and still have a gorgeous, finished look.

Extensions are also great for individuals who enjoy the “no makeup”, makeup look. Natural beauty has been trending and most of these looks are accompanied by lash extensions. Lash extensions add a touch of luxury to any natural makeup or bare face.

Exclusivity

colored

A set of extensions is never like the next! One of the unique traits of eyelash extensions is they are personalized to the individual client’s face and eye shape. There are four types of lashes set styles that include classic, hybrid, volume, and mega volume. These styles range from a more natural look to a dramatic lash giving clients a variety of densities. The combination of shape, length, and style, makes every single set of lashes exclusive to that client. Eyelash extensions continue to evolve with the addition of colored lashes and decorative gems. There is so much you can do with your very own set! Visit Beauty Lounge for a fresh set today!

Fall In Love with Your Hair

October 15, 2021 by admin

Is your hair looking for a refresh after a summer full of fun? Get ready to head into the cooler, cozy months with some of these fall 2021 hair trends!

Style Trends

01 Curtain Bangs

Bangs made a comeback this year! Specifically, curtain bangs. These bangs are light, airy, and look effortless. They sweep across the forehead and frame the face like how curtains frame a window. The best part? Curtain bangs look good on everyone!

02 Shag

If you like layers, the shag haircut is for you. This cut is reminiscent of the 80s and defined by many choppy, textured layers that add depth to the hair. This style of cut looks great on short, medium, or long hair!

03 Bob

Dare to cut it short, try a bob! Although a bob cut can sometimes be looked at as being conservative, there are several styles of bob that can make you look confident and stylish including the French bob and the hairline bob. A bob works well with straight or curly hair!

Capture 6

Is your hair not quite short but not quite long? If your hair is caught somewhere in the middle, create texture and depth for your hair by adding airy layers!

Color Trends

05 Latte Blonde

Latte Blonde – Imagine watching the leaves fall as you grip a warm coffee mug on a crisp autumn morning. A latte blonde hair color reflects the warm tones in your cup, like coffee with creamer.

06 Chocolate and Chestnut

Chocolate and Chestnut – Start with a dark brown base and add light brown highlights on top to give your hair an elegant yet warm look.

07 Auburn

Crisp Apple Cider – There’s nothing quite like the color orange in autumn. Auburn is a beautiful hair color that mimics the changing leaves. Vary the shades used to create a multidimensional hair color.

08 Burgundy

Burgundy – Just in time for Halloween, consider a deep, reddish-purple hair color for those that prefer a dark, sultry look.

Are you ready for a fresh, fall look? The Beauty Lounge can give you the hair of your dreams! Book your appointment today!

Highlights 101

July 15, 2021 by admin

The act of adding highlights to the hair has been traced back as far as Ancient Greece. In the 6th century BC, Ancient Greeks would add lighter tones to their hair by applying a concoction of olive oil, gold flakes, lemon juice, and pollen before letting their hair bake in the sunlight. Thousands of years later, although the process has developed, the trend continues to thrive. If you are looking for a way to create the illusion of depth in your hair, highlights are the way to go!

Traditional Highlights

Highlights

Traditional highlights are applied using foil. The hairstylist will section off the hair, apply coloring product, and wrap the hair in foil. Wrapping the hair in foil allows for the coloring product to completely saturate the hair and ultimately produce a more developed result. The foil method was revolutionary to the history of highlighting hair. It was originally introduced in the mid-1970s and continues to be the most popular method today.

Babylights

Babylights

Babylights are very similar to traditional highlights. In fact, they are accomplished by using the same foil method as traditional highlights. The main difference is the size of the highlights. Babylights are compromised of smaller, thinner sections of the hair that are closer together. This allows the highlight color to blend more naturally with the base color.

Balayage

Balayage

“Balayage” is a French word that means “to sweep.” Often misunderstood as a style of highlights, balayage is actually a technique that was introduced in France in the 1970s. It is done by freehand painting the coloring product onto the hair in a sweeping motion. Balayage is used when a natural transition is desired from the roots to the ends of the hair.

Foilyage

Foilyage

As the name implies, foilyage is a method that combines foiling and balayage techniques. The coloring product is applied to the hair using the balayage’s freehand painting but is then placed inside of foils to help the color process fully. This method maintains the subtle sweeping look produced by the balayage method but with more dramatic coloration caused by using foils.

Ombré

Ombre

“Ombré” is another French word meaning “shaded.” Unlike balayage, ombré is a style of highlights, not a method of applying highlights. While traditional highlights focus on applying a lighter color to the roots of the hair, ombré highlights appear as a quick transition from a darker color at the roots of the hair to a lighter tone at the roots. Ombré is usually better for those who wish to make more of a statement rather than achieve a natural look.

Sombré

Sombre

Sombré is a similar style to ombré, the main difference is the duration of the color transition. While the ombré transition is quick, the sombré transition occurs more gradually. This results in a more natural look as the hair slowly changes from a darker color at the roots to a lighter color as it progresses towards the ends of the hair.

No matter which highlights you choose, the Beauty Lounge can help you achieve the look you’ve always wanted! Schedule an appointment today!

Fall Hair Color Trends That Will “Leaf” You Speechless

October 31, 2018 by admin

Leaves don’t have to be the only thing changing color this fall.

The transition away from summer inspires darker colors to match the cooling temperatures. At the Beauty Lounge, we offer fall-inspired hair colors and techniques that are as trendy as a pumpkin spice latte. These are our favorite hair colors, inspired by our favorite parts of the new season.

RED VELVET

IMG_9541

Second only to eating the cake itself, Red Velvet is the sweet hair color for those who want to add more red into their current color. With a variety of shades, you can choose anything between standout and subtle. We love this trend because blondes and brunettes alike can take a bite and enjoy.

TOASTED COCONUT

IMG_9546

This hair color trend is made for those who aren’t ready to let summer go. This low-maintenance ombre is ideal for brunettes who want to go “bronde.” It can also be stunning with auburn or blonde hair. No matter the length of your hair, this color is the perfect way to say goodbye to summer.

FLANNEL

IMG_9542

Inspired by everyone’s favorite fall clothing, “Flannel” is the perfect fall hair color for anyone who loves sweaters and drinking hot apple cider.  The combination of burnt copper, auburn, deep red, and mulled wine hues create a warm, cozy color. Our favorite part about this color is that the variations of each of the shades can be changed depending on if your skin tone is warmer or cooler.

COLD BREW

IMG_9538

In New England, we drink iced coffee all year-round. Why not match your hair with your favorite drink? The “Cold Brew” hair color trend is inspired by the swirling of milk and flavor into your coffee. Lighter hair colors should focus on the highlights to create a golden tone whereas darker hair colors would use neutral-toned highlights. We love that you can be inspired by your favorite coffee flavors to create a beautiful, rich color.

Feel inspired yet? Schedule your appointment with the Beauty Lounge for all your hair care needs.
